(We hired him three weeks ago to start by the 19th and to finish by the 29th. He said, at that time, that he would stop by shortly so we could pick colors. Have not seen hide nor hair of him since. I have been stewing and waiting. And today is the 19th, so painting should be starting RIGHT ABOUT NOW).
I dial his cell.
"Pronto."
"Sono Diana Baur di Regione Valloria."
"Oh! I will come up in a half hour so you can choose the colors! See you in a bit!"
click.
And you wonder why I seem to have developed this light facial tick?

Di, you're a lucky woman.... imagine you called and he answered: "uh, I was just about to call and tell you that I broke both my arms and can't come"... ;) :D
Have a bright colourful day!
(off to some painter chat myself right now)
I think Giulia has said the right thing, it could have been worse. I hope he turned up within the half hour. Keep smiling bella
He came up and said, wow is it the 19th already? I don't know if I can....
I gave him a look like he might not get out alive. He promised to start on Friday. We'll see.
Good luck!
I'm shocked he came! i was sure he just said something to be able to hang up the phone.
My (Piemontese) friends (who teach their children Piemontese, literally!) who live outside Paris were talking about this same issue -- wanting to hire tradesmen/craftsmen to do work at the house --- people come do an estimate and then never show up again. They scoff at the notion of the "crisis" since these people don't seem too desperate to actually do any work!
Cara Diana,
I am sore this story is to be continued. At least your painter will supply you with stuff to write about.... Honestly, I hope he gets "crackin" before the end of the week, or you will probably burst. In bocca al lupo, cara! IBacione, Ingrid in Umbria
He was supposed to be here this morning with small quantities to test directoy on the walls. Did not come. Should I start chasing again?
Yes . .. chasing someone else!!! How frustrating!
