Gratitude Friday: The Waning Days of Summer

With a grateful heart, I welcome the first touches of fall back to our lives.  Our B&B is full of guests, something I did not think would be happening in 2009 when so many suffered so much financial loss.  I am rethinking breakfast with autumn fruits in mind.  The weather is still warm, the pool is still being used, and the change of seasons gradual.  I look forward to walks with Max, wearing socks again,  the smell of rich food in the kitchen.

Instead of flowers, I arrange acorns and rosehips in the vases for the rooms.  The mornings start a bit later, the days end a bit sooner.  It's the time of year when I inevitably feel the cycle of life's presence.    It is a beautiful, retrospective time of year.

Enjoy your days with a grateful heart.

I love the way you write, softly and meaningful.

I am grateful that I was watched over whilst away , and made it back safely to the UK, and grateful that whilst I was away my family were all fine and safe.

Take care and have a great weekend.

Thank you for the nice message. I'm sitting in Germany now - just six hours away from returning "home" to Italy... and I can't wait. Fall is just a wonderful time of year.

Yes, Fall is wonderful, isn't it? I also loved fall when I lived in Germany, der goldene Herbst - and in the northeastern part of the States as well.

The days here now in the northeastern U.S. are those PERFECT early fall/back to school days... crisp and clear... I'm grateful for every minute like that. And it means that apple cider and pumpkins can't be far off...

I love the Autumn too.

It's the changing light. There's a melancholy feel to everything.

Lovely post, thank you.

I love Fall also. I think I'd have a difficult time if I moved to an area without the change in seasons, its so tied to my own yearly cycle.

Loved your blog today...so soothing! I love this time of year...it reminds me of going back to school...and ever year I still buy new clothes, pens and papers as a way to remember to my childhood! I also love Labor Day weekend in the US as it is a new season and a new beginning to the rest of the year...happy weekend to all!

Fall is pretty spectacular. I hope it arrives in these parts sooner rather than later.

Buon weekend.

Lovely sentiment, there is something about fall that encourages introspection!

Lovely, evocative. I'm late with my GF today, but read yours first because I just couldn't wait. THEN posted mine!

I feel the same way about fall. We don't have the changes in the color of leaves here in the desert, but there is a difference in the light and in the weather. I think it's my favorite time of year.

I enjoyed your post.

I agree with the other comments, what a lovely post. I'd love to see a photo of one of your rose hip and acorn arrangements.
