Studio Ceramics: Form Follows Function

As I mentioned, I have been working on pottery prototypes for a line of dinnerware.  Here are my pieces which I have settled on as part of this first line of plates:

Muesli Bowl and Rounded Pasta Plate

Tall Latte Cup and Dinner Plate

Tea Bowl and  Dessert Plate

Coffee Cup and Dessert Plate

Four Piece Place Setting:  Muesli (or Soup) Bowl, Dinner Plate, Dessert Plate, Coffee Cup

These prototypes, which are leather hard now, will be painted in a specific pattern and then I can go about loading up for a bisque firing.

There is something about the simplicity of the lines, and the rounded elegance that I like.  Please let me know your (honest, please) opinions.

I love the shapes..cannot wait to see the patterns....

Yes that is what I was thinking, the simplicity of the design, yet elegant.

I would love to see the scale of the pieces, say against a hand. I sense that they're "human" sized, which I love.

Diana -

The simplicity of the pieces is very appealing. I am certain that the glazes you chose will add a complex balance that will complete them well. Very nice work - the consistent weight and structure of each piece is evident - very hard to do! Congratulations!
(Happy Birthday, too!)

I also love the simplicity. The tea cup is my favorite.

I love theses clean lines as well.

I too love the simple clean lines, and I'd also like a better sense of the size and scale. If anything, maybe I'd like to have the dinner plate a little larger?

I'm totally with you: I love the simplicity and roundness. I can't imagine how you're going to decide how to paint them: they look so perfect now! Do you already have something in mind? Will you have to try out different options? Well dana, Diana!
