We Are Family

Natasja of Borgo Vallone

Natasja with Ruud of Alla Madonna del Piatto

Gloria of Casina di Rosa and Giulia of Valle Nuova

First my apologies to those I did not photograph (Luigi, Marcel, Ben and Martha).  Next time we need to do a group photo.

A great time was had by all.  we laughed ourselves silly at some points, and shared our experiences.

But can we talk about the FOOD?  Geez, Meg, all I can say is you really know how to pick a restaurant.  The chef and owner is Megan's friend Stefania and I can tell you that Stefania went all out to make our little group happy....

Here was the menu, as far as I can remember (and identify) it:

Jumbo Shrimp with Fava Beans and Parsley
Anchovies stuffed with (I think) Polenta and Herbs--or was it bread crumbs?
Baby Squid with Radicchio
Torta stuffed with Rice and White Fish
Fresh Anchovies with Olive Oil and Tomatoes

Ligurian Lasagna stuffed with Bechemel, Pesto, Potatoes, Artichokes and Green Beans
Bati Bati

A REALLY BIG WHITE FISH (I mean huge) served with Tomatoes and Potatoes

Sweet baked Goods.

Vermentino was served with dinner and Vin Santo was served with dessert.

I will not tell you what we paid for all of this because you will scream into your computers and say "NOT FAIR!!!"

So I need some help here. Megan, when you read this can you comment on the following...
The name of the restaurant ( I am embarrassed that I was too busy stuffing my face to notice)..
The name of that massive white fish which was delicious.... and....
What is Bati Bati made from and is that the correct spelling?
Can you clarify the stuffing of the anchovies?

Food shot will be posted on the next post.

All I can say is that it did my heart good to be with this very special group!  The time went way too quickly.  It really did.

I heart all of you.

OSTERIA GHIOTTINE IN SAN TERENZO DI LERICI

The name of that massive white fish which was delicious.... and....

ORATA UBER-SIZED

What is Bati Bati made from and is that the correct spelling?

BATI BATI IS A "SISTER" OF THE LOBSTER WITH BETTER FLAVOR ACTUALLY!

Can you clarify the stuffing of the anchovies?

BREAD CRUMBS, PREZZEMOLO, GARLIC, PARMESANA, PEPEROCINO.

It was lots of fun and yes, the food was surreal! :)

You lucky gal-what fun! Why can't we have one decent (authentic) Italian restaurant in my town?

Oh my this looks beyond delicious - I loved living vicariously through all of your planning - thanks for sharing, and thanks for not sharing what you paid, that would, as you say, make some of us scream into the computer.

It was such a great evening! Even though some of us....well, actually ONE of us, forgot how many courses make a meal a meal in Italy. Just because it's fabulous, doesn't mean you should have second helpings....of everything. Taking a walk between the pasta and the fish course did not help. But a small glass of grappa did! Still, the beautiful white fish went by without a taste from me. This restaurant is so worth a visit from anyone in the area. And Megan is the perfect concierge for all your travel needs in Liguria.

I loved connecting faces with Slow Trav names, and hope to see you all again.

Ciao Diana, just got here several days later due to the fact that we have reopened for the season and all leisure activities have sort of stopped! Oh my, it was a wonderful evening, it was wonderful food and above all wonderful people. Why, oh why we do not live a little closer?
